Siobhán Kavanagh and Sophia Tamburrini collaboration began in 2020 being drawn together by similar interests in experimental sound performance and visual storytelling. In June 2021, they launched the performance installation ‘Up Jumps Johnny’ at O’Riada Hall, UCC for Cork Midsummer Festival. ‘Up Jumps Johnny’ is a collection of songs and experimental music by Siobhán Kavanagh depicting a fictional eviction saga- steeped in ideas of protest and the supernatural. The moving image and visuals combined original super 8 film, performance work by Siobhán Kavanagh and archival footage gathered by Sophia to accompany the live music. In September 2023, the artists attended a two week residency in ‘Cill Rialaig Artist Retreat’ that resulted in a performance installation combining live music, spoken word performance - framed by burnt gorse. The artists are currently gathering an archive of black and white analogue film, writing including songs and poetry, live audio performance and a collection of salvaged sculpture.
